  • “Observer mode”…what, why, when…

Recently (I suspect since the last update), several players have complained about an inability to assist in a battle due to a message popping up that states: “observation mode”
Why has this been implemented, for what reason and purpose? I personally haven’t seen it yet, but I assist more than most people do. 20x MORE THAN most people do.
It’s strange that I haven’t seen it yet.
Please explain why you’ve done this. It seems unfair.

Hi DillyDilly, Observation Mode is something should only occur while attempting to assist with War battles. (The Alliances Wars feature is currently in Early Access, so Obsevation Mode should only affect Alliances which are part of this Early Access. And only during War battles.)

Alliance War battles have a limit on the number of active assisters that can assist in a given War battle. (This limit is currently 5.) Once 5 assisters are actively taking part, other players who are watching will be in Observation Mode and no longer able to assist.

The rationale for this is we are concerned about Alliances feeling obliged to queue their attacks to get as many assisters as possible in an attack. We'd like for War attacks to come out in an aggressive, dynamic fashion, and not be too constrained by queuing.

Thank you for your prompt answer.
Now I understand the reason the alliance I’m in has suddenly dropped in attendance…as well as players complaining about the new changes.
Our alliance has a tight group of regular players that join together (from time to time) to amass a formidable troop that has a high percentage of wins vs. higher level players.
We took pride in our alliance and we’re much like a family (or as close as you could get in this situation).
But now many players have not played recently and in the few battles they have joined together in SMALL GROUPS, this new “observation mode” has limited their involvement, prompting them to leave suddenly, not returning…not even saying “goodbye”.
So..your new rules have limited the strong-arming that a tight-knit alliance can do. Is that a good thing?
And if it is, is it worth frustrating veteran players to the point where they are quitting?
I personally have made my dissatisfaction known about updates in the past (years ago) but have found it falls on deaf ears.
In my opinion, this new “policy” is destroying the reason we have alliances…and should be changed.
Of course, my opinion doesn’t matter…so, I might as well bark at the moon.

Observation mode only applies in the new alliance war battles. It should not exist anywhere else. If you DO see this elsewhere, please let us know as that would be a mistake that we would fix.

Yes, that sounds like a bug. We will look into it!

I still haven’t been given a basic understanding of what an “Alliance War” is.
How does it differentiate between a normal battle?
why would you limit the number of active assistants?
why haven’t I been effected? I’ve yet to see this message.

I assist almost exclusively (rarely attack) and would be devastated if I was limited even ONCE from assisting.
So you see, for me…this just won’t do.
My teammates say I haven’t been effected yet because I’m usually the first to join in battles.
I’ve only been playing GOO for about 4-5 years, so I guess my time spent playing and the $130+ dollars I paid for gems doesn’t amount to much for the Developers.

I sort of understand, but only in theory. I have yet to see the difference in regular game play and an Alliance War battle.
Am I given a choice? If my alliance decides to be involved (who makes the call? The Leader?) , will every player be in the War?
Or is this up to the individual?

Alliance Wars is a whole separate feature, with a separate button in the top left corner. This is currently being tested by alliances that have volunteered, through their leader, to test this early access to a non-released game mode.
If a leader has not made this request for the whole alliance, it is invisible.
