What does the orange circle in support mode mean, and what determines when and where it shows up?

It indicates the patron of whoever you're assisting and therefore gets a slightly boosted power compared to normal.

Same for when you're assisting an attacker or assisting someone in defense. In your photo, if you're assisting an attacker then they have Zues patron...if you're on defense then it's a Zues environment.
