After reading a little on these Spartans and trying them out for myself... I do see them as useless. I like the idea of being able to control our defenses too. That was a nice touch. Good to not have to wait as long for a new update, but you guys wanted feedback and people have been saying it. I did some math and well Spartans just dont give the value back. Im a puny level 107 with 10 billion stones. I made a new slot and maxed out 1 temple so then I have 10 billion stones left, then I was able to buy 39 hoplite academies and for a new base only 12 Spartan academies. I know you said its better to spread stones and of course it is, but when you do the math... theres 20 troops in 1 hoplite academy and they do 250 dmg (nonboosted). 20*39*250 = 195,000 dmg total, while the spartans there is only 19 troops in it and they do 500 dmg, so it is 19*12*500 = 114,000 dmg. Thats a huge difference, sure they dont get charmed, but they arent scary enough. I was still able to just use Hera against Poseidon temple while 12 Spartan academies were attacking her. Spartans were a great idea, but they dont seem to bring out their value enough for their price. They are a joke and useless. Its better to spread out your stones into making a max base first. Gorgons are alright of a tower. The golden number is 3 from what I have seen. Until someone is able to make a max base that takes all the space then its worth buying more. I though 1.2 billion stones was a lot for a max cap, but nice on the 4.8 billion on spartans. Gorgons were hard at the beginning, people just had them and then we figured out how to counter them and didnt need to nerf them, but with Spartans... no. one. uses. them. So why are they more expensive than gorgons if they bring less to a base? Spartans are a great idea dont get more wrong, its just the price isnt worth what they can provide. Hope this helps and if you disagree or want to point out something please say so.

Hi Adrien, thanks for the feedback.

Here is my analysis of the troops.

Both the Spartan academy and hoplite academy provide 20 troops. (Why do you think there are only 19 for Spartan academy?)

Spartan academies at their best cost around 3x a normal academy. If you build only Spartan academies you will get worse and worse, up to 5x a normal academy. Looks like at your spend, you were only at 3.25x a normal academy, which frankly is better than I expected.

Spartans are 2x stronger/healthier than a normal troop.

Spartans are 1 step faster than a normal troop.

Spartans can guard specific areas at a specific range. You can even point your Spartans all the way across the entire map and they will start the battle there if you'd like. (Even if you didn't use the guard range feature, if you wanted to start all your initial Spartans defending temples instead of their own academies, you could do that).

      Spartans can not be charmed.

Spartan academies can not be charmed.

Spartan academy is probably better against an (Inspired) Wrath. Probably a little worse against Kraken, though it might actually avoid Kraken targeting at all because of its high hit points. Spartans (and spartan skeletons) last 2x longer against hawk storm. Probably minor points though.

Spartans also do a different type of damage: They can hit multiple units at once and always do as much damage as possible. What this means is that if a Spartan is near 3 guys with 100 HP each, and a specific Spartan deals out 250 damage, he will kill 2 of the guys and damage the third for 50 HP. If they are just beating on a god, no difference at all, but against troops that carryover does add up a bit.

Much easier to boost 1 spartan academy with houses than 3 academies with houses. Think about your example. If you need/want to boost 39 hoplite academies, how many troop houses and how much cost will that require? If you are just trying to boost 12 Spartan academies, you can get away with far, far, fewer houses and far, far, less house cost. Try remaking your bases with 24 upgraded houses in each and see where the math takes you.

      =====================

So with all this said, say hypothetically you could always get a Spartan academy at the cost of 3 academies. As you've correctly pointed out, that means you will get 2/3 the health and 2/3 the strength. Maybe a little more than 2/3 the strength because of the different attack type. What you get in return is troop control, charm resistance for both the troop and the building, waaaaay easier to house boost (which could in fact get you back over the 3x health/strength cost hump rather quickly in some cases depending on your house selection), a tad faster, and maybe some better resistance to some ultimate powers.

IMO if the Spartans had 3x health and 3x strength (instead of 2x), they would be a fantastic deal and probably OP. Maybe all these additional benefits don't bridge the 2x to 3x gap for you, but maybe they do for some people. If they don't generally, though, pulling them up to 2.5x health and 2.5x strength would probably be the next step.

Hi Adrien 😘, welcome to the forums!

I've now had a chance to play the challenge and a few bases that have these Spartans, as well as assisted many more, and I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment so far. Purely, from a value for money perspective, we're better off having the other academies as they do more damage.

however, I do like having more defence tools, and also agree with Castiel above, that having an uncharmable structure should strengthen the core of the base, but the question then becomes, is it strengthened enough to justify the cost, and the answer is still no, for me anyway.

I built a new base to try and incorporate it with my other defenses, but it's now smaller and easier to get to the centre, started with 4, then sold one, and when it became clear I'd have to sell another, I gave up.

Maybe in 10 levels time, I'll be able to incorporate it better, but for now, I'm sticking with the old base, or until something changes.

you can upload the screenshots of the tests you did, if you click on the camera icon .

leroy ok thats fine, it would of been cool if there was a way to provide that information to players when it comes out.. What happened to youtube? I liked seeing that hades sneak peek way back then. Well multiple targets would be useful, but I thought this was to lower monogod. Monogod there is just 1 god and sure people assist but you can awe the troops and so they still take the temple. The spartans do seem great, I just wish I could use them. Too expensive for me to get creative, I dont want just 2 temples protected. Because then aphrodite takes one with ease and the other is poseidon tidal one shot the temple. So all temples protected by them wont do anything as there arent enough spartans. If its guarding poseidon temple or athena temple well that will die in slowtime, therefor they become a threat to corner tenting. I have nothing against corner tenting, nor monogod. Its just if you guy want to balance the game I dont see them doing enough to be able to balance. I know dont want to make them OP, but offense is pretty OP. I would just say to nerf Aphrodites awe as invincibility is what is OP and Aphrodite has like 30 seconds of it. Thats a lot. Cerberus hits like almost ares and has health like athena. He is the best combo of the 2 in one. He is OP too takes his own temple. Spartans are great and from description they do seem super strong, but the strength comes in numbers. 2-4 Spartans wont do enough to make a difference. And I like Darks thinking of how it could of been a new feature for all spawners, but ok if you dont want to, your game. I just wish to be able to use spartans, I just dont have a way to save 1 billion stones quick. that would take like 10 weeks of challenges. I dont want to grind 10 weeks for just 1 spawner. Sure we can attack but I have other things to do than play goo 24/7. Can you explain me the best way to grind for them? Because the price right now is too crazy. Will alliance wars give a bunch of loot as reward to make up for this huge amounts? (thx for welcome Nalzn xD )
