Academies and Archery Ranges are both very useful as they continuously spawn hoplites and archers respectively. Since these troops need some time to reach enemy gods, place these buildings near temples
(One or two academies and/or archery ranges around each temple to strenghen its defence.)
Disantcantage: You already know it, hoplites and archers are charmable by the goddess Aphrodite, but you cannot do without them either.
